Victorian Government Budget Boosts Carer Support

Over the next four years the Victorian Government's 2019/20 budget includes a $49.5 million package in additional funding for carers. This package will fund an extra 100,000 hours of respite care each year and expand eligibility to include carers of people with mental illness and younger carers. This will enable an extra 5000 Victorians to access respite care, knowing their relative or friend is receiving quality care.

Within the $49.5 million package, there will be $4 million in grants for carer support groups. These grants will focus on support for carers in regional areas as well as under-recognised groups such as young carers and LGBTIQA + carers.

Victorian Carer Card holders will be able to access half priced public transport all year round and free public transport during carers week.

Carers Victoria played a pivitol role in the development of the Victorian Carer Strategy in 2018 to ensure carers can get the support they need.
